Maqam-e-Ibrahim: (A Sight To Behold)
In the Mataf region, directly in front of the Kabbah, is a spot known as Maqam-e-Ibrahim, literally "the site where Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) stood" (the circular area around Kabbah where pilgrims perform Tawaf). The footsteps of the Prophet Ibrahim can be seen in what appears to be a blackish-red stone with a touch of whiteness (PBUH). The pilgrims can see the stone because it is enclosed in a glass dome. A gilded cage with an ornate engraving protects the glass dome. A curtain called "Sitara" decorates the inside of the cage. The dimensions of this massive rock are 8 inches in height, 14 inches in width, and 15 inches in length. The Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) is supposed to have stood on Maqam-e-Ibrahim and beckoned pilgrims to Mecca from there. However, it is still seen as a sign of respect for Allah. Allah, the Most High, stresses the significance of Maqam-e-Ibrahim in the Holy Quran, as follows:“….Take as your place of worship the place where Ibrahim(PBUH) stood (to pray).”
