Masjid al-Haram
Masjid al-Haram (The Grand Mosque)
Masjid al-Haram, often known as the "Forbidden Mosque," is one of the first mosques ever constructed. The name comes from the fact that all Muslims are welcome there, regardless of where they live, while non-Muslims are not. The Great Mosque of Makkah is another name for this landmark. In this mosque, Muslims from all over the world can pray and do Hajj. The mosque was built around the sacred Black Stone of Kaaba, which Muslims over the world visit to pay their respects. Since it is the largest mosque in the world, Masjid al-haram is sometimes referred to as the magnificent mosque. When you stand between the pillars, you are in Allah's presence. The mosque, it is reported, is always open. The site attracts millions of Muslims annually who seek pardon from God and worship him there.
Masjid al-Haram is referred to in verse (2:149) of chapter (2) sūrat Al-baqarah:So from wherever you go out [for prayer, O Muhammad] turn your face toward al- Masjid al-haram, and indeed, it is the truth from your Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.
